La compagnie aérienne régionale de Polynésie française et l’avionneur européen ATR ont annoncé vendredi la signature d’une commande ferme portant sur un exemplaire d’ATR 72-600 et la confirmation d’un accord pour deux exemplaires de la version ATR 42-600S pouvant effectuer des décollages et des atterrissages courts.
Air Tahiti exploite des liaisons locales essentielles sur le territoire de Polynésie française depuis plus de 65 ans et dispose d’une flotte ATR depuis plus de 30 ans.
Le transporteur aérien qui exploite aujourd’hui 10 appareils (2 ATR42-600 et 8 ATR72-600) est devenu le client de lancement de l’ATR 42 600S en 2019 lors du salon aéronautique du Bourget en 2019.
Avec deux avions supplémentaires aménageables de 30 à 50 places et capables de décoller ou d’atterrir sur des pistes de seulement 800 mètres, Air Tahiti développera de nouvelles opportunités commerciales, comme des vols commerciaux vers l’île de Maupiti, avec une capacité de charge de 100 %.
Le nouvel ATR 42-600S STOL a effectué son premier vol le 12 mai 2022 au départ de l’aéroport de Francazal, près de Toulouse et entrera en phase de certification en 2023. Les premières livraisons sont prévues fin 2024 selon son constructeur.
